Water is an extremely powerful and divine element; it is 70% of our makeup, we need it to survive, and it has the power to transform our lives. It can dissolve minerals, transport solids, and store thermal energy. However, did you know that water is also influenced by sound and vibration, and can make an incredible healing tool?

The Connection Between Vibration & Water

Based on the work and experiments conducted by Dr. Masaru Emoto (a prominent Japanese doctor of alternative medicine who was a pioneer in the study of water), it was discovered that water molecules are affected by our words and thoughts (and more specifically, the vibration behind our words and thoughts). Using high speed photography, Dr. Emoto revealed how crystals formed in frozen water changed when specific and concentrated words or thoughts were directed towards them. For example, water that had been exposed to negative words or phrases such as “I will kill you” formed incomplete and asymmetrical patterns but water that had been exposed to loving words or songs like a Mozart symphony or the phrase “thank you” formed brilliant, beautiful, and complex patterns. The main takeaways from his groundbreaking experiment (which can be read about more in depth in Dr. Emoto’s New York Times bestselling book The Hidden messages in Water) were the following:

Both energy, thoughts, and words are vibration.
Water is a medium that both receives and understands even the most subtle vibrations.
Negative thoughts, emotions, words, and music prevent water molecules from crystallizing.
Positive thoughts, emotions, words, and music allow water molecules to develop into beautiful, hexagonal, crystal-like shapes.
Since water makes up around 70% of our body composition, vibration makes a significant impact in the state of our physical and emotional health.

Water & Sound Healing

Sound healing “shakes up” all the water in our bodies, which is one of the main reasons while we feel calmer, more at peace, and happier after a session. Sound travels 5 times faster through water than through air, making it a great conductor of sound and why sound healing has such a profound effect on us. Additionally, every organ, bone, and cell in our body has its own resonant frequency, so when one is out of tune it can affect the entire body. Using the principle of resonance (or echo), sound healing brings the body back to harmony.

Altha Water Activation Exercise

You do not need fancy equipment or a science lab to change the vibration of your own water, you can easily do it home with our simple water activation exercise! By doing this ritual you can change the molecular structure of your water and physically drink positive vibrations – just follow these directions:

Pick a positive word or intention (for example, “gratitude”, “love”, “I am powerful” etc.).
If you are using a water bottle, write the word on the bottle. If you are using a glass, write the word on a piece of paper and place it under the glass.
Play high vibrational music (our favorites here at Altha are sound healing bowls or Ludovico Einaudi).
Close your eyes and embody how that positive word or intention feels.
Imagine “shooting that word or intention from your heart while you keep your hands above the water bottle or glass. Stay here for at least a few breaths.
Drink the water and imagine all of the positive vibrations going into your body and nourishing you from the inside out.
